FDTM: Block Level Data Migration Policy in Tiered Storage System
نویسندگان
چکیده
ILM and tiered storage system are designed to address the challenge of achieving balance between cost and storage performance. However, both of them are hard to implement fully automatic data migration by traditional solutions for which are mainly relying on administrators experience and need huge manual work for data migration according to storage configuration and IO access patterns. This paper proposes a novel bi-directional migration policy FDTM based on block-level data valuation and fully automatic migration process. FDTM aims to get a trade-off between storage QoS and migration costs by introducing double thresholds to narrow the migration scope of block-level data objects. Experiment and analysis show that FDTM is efficient at block-level data migration comparing with traditional migration policies. In addition, it could help pave the way to implement tiered storage system with fully automatic data migration.

Viewing Adaptive Migration Policies for Tiered Storage Systems as a Supervised Learning Problem
Many file migration algorithms rely on simple, unchanging, automated heuristics to make file placement decisions for exclusively hierarchical storage systems. Such approaches cannot adapt to changes in the workload or data center configuration. Systems with manually-tuned policies offer a way to deal with changes but require well-trained administrators, thereby driving up the cost of storage ma...

This paper explores the forensic implications of Apple’s Fusion Drive. The Fusion Drive is an example of auto-tiered storage. It uses a combination of a flash drive and a magnetic drive. Data is moved between the drives automatically to maximize system performance. This is different from traditional caches because data is moved and not simply copied. The research included understanding the driv...
متن کاملDynamic Block-level Cache Management for Cloud Computing Systems
Block-level distributed storage systems (e.g., SAN, iSCSI) are commonly used in the emerging cloud computing systems to provide virtual machine (VM) storage. They allow fast VM migration across different hosts and improved VM availability leveraging typical faulttolerance measures (e.g., RAID) available in such storage systems. However, as the size of cloud systems and the number of hosted VMs ...

Large-scale high-speed mass-storage systems account for a large part of the energy consumed at data centers. To conserve energy consumed by these storage systems, we propose a high-speed tiered-storage system with a poweraware proactive method of storage-tiering management that minimizes loss of performance, which we have called the energy-efficient High-speed Tiered-Storage system (eHiTS). eHi...

An integrated optimization framework, including location assignment under grouping class-based storage policy and schedule of dual shuttle cranes, is offered by presenting a new optimization programming model. The objective functions, which are considered at this level, are the minimization of total costs and energy consumption. Scheduling of dual shuttle cranes among specified locations, which...
